The 3 criteria essential to qualify as Mesenchymal Stem Cell (MSC)- ISCT criteria

Back in 2006, the International Association for Cell Therapy (ISCT) introduced a standardized definition for mesenchymal stem cells that is now globally recognized. According to this definition, only cells that meet the following 3 criteria can qualify as mesenchymal stem cells:

They required attachment to a surface for growth.

They exhibit specific antigens or markers on their surface CD90, CD73 and CD105 markers greater than 95%. The negative markers (CD34, CD11b, CD19, CD45 and HLA-DR) were fewer than 2%, which was in accordance with the ISCT guidelines.

They have the ability to differentiate into adipocytes, osteoblasts, and chondrocytes.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have the potential to revolutionize healthcare and change the world in several ways by helping people in various medical conditions and applications:

Introducing Nature Natural Killer (NK) Cell MYJ1633, an autologous NK Cell therapy product approved by the Japan FDA in 2018. This innovative treatment consists of 50-90% activated NK and NKT cells, carefully cultivated using cutting-edge cell technology.

Our primary goal is to empower patients in their battle against various health challenges, whether preventive or restorative in nature. With NK Cell MYJ1633, we aim to enhance your body’s natural defense mechanisms, providing a formidable ally in the fight against illness.

The next generation of cancer treatment is rapidly evolving, with a focus on harnessing the power of natural killer (NK) cells and natural killer T (NKT) cells. These immune cells play a pivotal role in the body’s defense against cancer and are at the forefront of innovative therapies aimed at revolutionizing the way we treat this complex and pervasive disease.

NK and NKT cells are innate immune cells known for their unique ability to recognize and eliminate abnormal cells, including cancer cells, without the need for prior exposure. Their distinct advantage lies in their capacity to discriminate between healthy and cancerous cells, resulting in targeted cancer cell destruction and minimal damage to normal tissues. The next generation of cancer treatment with these cells encompasses several key aspects:

  1. Immunotherapy Advancements: NK and NKT cell therapies are part of the broader field of immunotherapy, which seeks to leverage the body’s immune system to combat cancer. These therapies aim to enhance the immune response against cancer by bolstering the activity of NK and NKT cells.
  2. Precision Targeting: NK and NKT cells have the remarkable ability to seek out and destroy cancer cells selectively. They employ a range of receptors to identify specific markers on the surface of cancer cells, enabling precise targeting.
  3. Allogeneic Approaches: Allogeneic NK cell therapies involve using NK cells from healthy donors. This approach provides a standardized and readily available source of therapeutic cells, potentially benefiting a broader range of patients.
  4. Combination Therapies: NK and NKT cell therapies are often used in combination with other cancer treatments, such as immune checkpoint inhibitors. These combinations can enhance the overall effectiveness of treatment by addressing multiple aspects of cancer growth and evasion.
  5. Diverse Applicability: These therapies have demonstrated promise in treating a wide array of cancers, spanning hematologic malignancies like leukemia and lymphoma to solid tumors such as breast, lung, and ovarian cancers.
  6. Overcoming Resistance: NK and NKT cell therapies may hold particular promise for patients with relapsed or refractory cancer, where traditional treatments have shown limited effectiveness. Their unique mechanisms of action can overcome resistance to standard therapies.
  7. Clinical Trials: The development of NK and NKT cell therapies is well underway, with numerous clinical trials examining their safety and efficacy. These trials represent a critical step in bringing these treatments to a wider patient population.

While the potential of NK and NKT cell-based therapies is evident, it’s crucial to acknowledge that these approaches are still in the early stages of clinical development. Research is ongoing to optimize their safety, efficacy, and scalability. As with any medical advancement, there are challenges to overcome, such as managing potential side effects and ensuring long-term benefits.

Activated natural killer (NK) cells offer several advantages over inactivated NK cells in terms of their ability to combat infections, diseases, and cancer. Here are some of the key benefits of activated NK cells compared to inactivated NK cells:

Cytotoxicity

Activated NK cells have enhanced cytotoxic (cell-killing) activity, allowing them to efficiently target and destroy infected or cancerous cells. In contrast, inactivated NK cells have limited or no cytotoxic capabilities.
